Summer Intensive Program in Visual Storytelling

“This summer program aims to bolster one’s personal voice with rigor that encourages professional practices and unique perspectives”.
Karen Marshall, Chair of the Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism program at ICP

Submission are open for the ninth edition of the Summer Intensive Program in Visual Storytelling organized by CAMERA in Turin and International Center Photography (ICP). ICP, the school founded in New York by Cornell Capa in 1974, is the temple of international photography where, over the years, the photographers who have become leading figures on the world photography scene have studied and taught. The sixteen-day intensive program is a unique opportunity, in Italy and Europe, to train with the teachers of a school of excellence, to deepen and experiment with the language of contemporary documentary photography.

Designed for both the working professional and the emerging imagemaker this immersive experience offers photographers with an accelerated environment to develop their visual voice while providing the tools necessary to make effective work in the ever-changing world of visual storytelling. During this densely packed workshop, participants take a deep dive into understanding the intricate aspects of what it means to create visual stories with photographs while exploring how their work can live as a zine, an interactive website or a group of photographs in an exhibition.

Opportunities for participants:
> Photographers who complete the Turin Intensive are automatically accepted into the One Year Documentary Practice Program or the Creative Practice Program at ICP with priority consideration given to fellowship opportunities.
> The participants will be able to apply for a competitive three-month internship in Amsterdam at FUTURES, a Europe based photography platform bringing together the global photography community to support and nurture the professional development of emerging artists across the world. Internship application deadline is June 15, information on how to participate will be sent admitted students.

Let’s Draw Art | A line is enough to draw

Let’s Draw Art is back, the Abbonamento Musei event to entertain young artists with pencils and felt-tip pens, which this year are supplied by a historic company, CARIOCA. Children and young people up to the age of 14 play, learn and have fun with the works in the exhibitions and museum collections, interacting with art in dedicated workshops.

On Sunday 7 April, CAMERA will hold Just a line to draw dedicated to the exhibition Ugo Mulas / Saul Steinberg’s graffiti in Milan

Saul Steinberg used to make incredible and very funny drawings with pen and pencil: with a line, simple or arched, soft or broken, he could tell the story of a character!
He also drew buildings, strange means of transport and animals: dogs, cats, horses, lions and many plants… he loved palm trees! In CAMERA there is a big drawing of his, so big that we will be able to go inside it! We will immerse ourselves in his worlds and like Saul we will try to draw our own characters and discover how many things a line can tell!

Let’s Draw Art costs €4 per child, while an accompanying adult will get a reduced ticket (€8).
