CAMERA meets ICP. A Living Archive

Project Room | 4 July – 14 September 2025

CAMERA meets ICP. A Living Archive is the exhibition, in Project Room from July 4 to September 14, 2025, that presents the photographic material created by participants in the advanced training program in Visual Storytelling as part of the 10-year collaboration between CAMERA and the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York City (2016-2025).

Each July for the past decade faculty from ICP school have brought their teaching philosophy to Turin offering a rigorous experience for those who have participated. The exhibition was created to celebrate a partnership that has generated more than 10,000 photographs and countless human connections, involving 221 students from 34 countries around the world, as well as staff from both cultural institutions. It is a collective experience that offers an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of “living archives”, which, edition after edition of the Intensive Program, has expanded knowledge of the city and the Piedmont region through photography.

The exhibition explores various exhibition formats, offering insights into the participants’ visual approaches and backgrounds, the themes, the results achieved, and the forms of the creative process: from a projection of 300 selected images to the curatorial selection of 40 photographs by seven alumni who after participating in the July Intensive at CAMERA went on to study in the One Year Certificate program at ICP  in New York City (Andrés Altamirano, Lucia Buricelli, Nastassia Kantorowicz Torres, Gianluca Lanciai, Deka Mohamed, Iva Sidash, Ashima Yadava), as well as archival tagging and graphic visualizations.

Destined to grow over time, this living archive maps not only subjects but also styles, trends and new perspectives on photography as a global visual language. At the same time, the images document the social changes of the last decade and the evolving urban and human structure of the city.

The exhibition is curated by Cristina Araimo, head of educational activities; Barbara Bergaglio, head of archives; and Giangavino Pazzola, curator and head of research projects at CAMERA.
ICP faculty: Karen Marshall, Andrew Lichtenstein, Gaia Squarci, Alessandro Ghirelli, Giulia Bianchi, Alison Morley, Bob Sacha, Greg Miller, and Saul Metnick.
