Seeing America: Weston Meets Whitman

Special Salone OFF | Tuesday 19 May, 6.30pm

Tuesday, May 19, 6.30pm, as part of the Salone OFF program, the spaces of CAMERA come alive with words and images for a reading that brings together photography and poetry, organized in collaboration with Scuola Holden.

Writer Elena Varvello will read selected excerpts from Leaves of Grass, Walt Whitman’s celebrated poetry collection, which in its 1942 edition was accompanied by photographs by Edward Weston.

Commissioned by the Limited Editions Book Club, the American photographer set out on a road trip across the United States, creating deeply evocative images, some of which are on display at CAMERA. These photographs reveal Weston’s most intense and melancholic imagery, along with his ability to transform even the most ordinary subjects into something extraordinary, uncovering their intrinsic beauty.
