Hidden Voices at Emarèse (Valle d’Aosta)

Following its run in Turin in 2024, the exhibition organised by CAMERA and Chora Media, in cultural partnership with Lavazza, will open at the Le Milieu centre in Emarèse as part of the Mine Festival.

From Friday 12 June, visitors will be able to view the exhibition, which presents three photographic projects commissioned from Arianna Arcara, Antonio Ottomanelli and Roselena Ramistella, all dedicated to the theme of linguistic minorities in Italy’s inland regions. A multidisciplinary journey combining contemporary photography, materials gathered from the regions and communities involved, and a series of podcasts produced by Chora Media, creating an evolving archive on linguistic marginalisation and the cultural, social and identity-related issues linked to it.

Hidden Voices (Voci Nascoste. Le lingue che resistono) constructs a visual and auditory landscape in which photography meets history, memory, the vitality of people and the symbolic dimension of places, festivals and myths. At the heart of the project lies a heritage of knowledge, practices and stories in constant transformation: the result of migrations, coexistence, linguistic dispersion, numerical marginalisation and cultural centrality, which reaffirm diversity as a defining value of identity.

The exhibition forms part of the Mine Festival – a new participatory festival which, from 12 to 14 June 2026, will bring three days of art, music, photography, literature, workshops and socialising – and invites the public to reflect on the value of minority languages not as relics of the past, but as living, fragile and essential entities, capable of portraying a plural, complex Italy that is deeply rooted in its territories. The project is organised by Associazione La Clé sur la Porte ETS and is supported by the Regional Council of Valle d’Aosta.
