The Narrative Impulse.

Workshop with Salvatore Vitale | 26-27 November 2021

This workshop with Salvatore Vitale is designed to explore possibilities of visual storytelling and the use of photography combined with other media.

In an era characterized by the proliferation of digital communication and by an increasingly interconnect mediascape, it is a necessity for visual artists to confront themselves with a multitude of different languages and media which constantly influence and shape the production of meaning. Artists are invaluable partners in addressing and discussing the myriad urgent questions of a complex and ever-changing world. Developing innovative narrative formats for interpretation, translation, transfer of knowledge and alternative perspectives is a key task for today’s visual storytellers as essential catalysts in democratic societies.

The workshop is open to photographers and artists interested in exploring the varied possibilities of storytelling, from strategies for story design to the hybridisation between fictional and factual narrative strategies and the use of photography combined with other media. Participants will be guided and provided with an understanding of the potential of using transmedia narratives in order to communicate and deliver stories. The workshop will introduce examples and references in the field of Transmedia and Cross Media production with a focus on artistic projects ad applications.
