FUTURES

CAMERA goes to UNSEEN

As part of the annual activities of the European programme FUTURES (EPP – European Photography Platform), CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia is delighted to announce the participation in UNSEEN Amsterdam 2018 (21 to 23 September), of the six up-and-coming artists chosen by a prestigious selection committee coordinated by the Turin-based Centre.

Umberto Coa (Palermo, 1988), Teresa Giannico (Bari, 1985), Vittorio Mortarotti (Savigliano, 1982), Armando Perna (Reggio Calabria, 1981), Lorenzo Pingitore (Turin, 1985) and Anna Positano (Genoa, 1981) are the photographers selected by Ilaria Bonacossa (Director of Artissima – Turin), Diane Dufour (director of Le Bal – Paris), Francesca Lavazza (collector), Beatrice Merz (Fondazione Merz – Turin) and Walter Guadagnini (director of CAMERA – Turin) to take part in the rich calendar of national and international activities of FUTURES. The artists will be accompanied throughout their activities by the curator and coordinator of the programme, Giangavino Pazzola (Sassari, 1981).

At Unseen Amsterdam 2018, the young talents will be involved in display activities, networking and professional empowerment, along with over sixty artists selected by nine other cultural institutions that are members of FUTURES | EPP. From an exhibition point of view, all the talents selected by CAMERA, FOMU Fotomuseum, PhotoEspaña, British Journal of Photography, Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center, Foundation of Visual Education (Lodz), Photo Romania Festival, Photo Ireland Festival, Festival d’Hyeres and Triennale der Photographie Hamburg will be the protagonists of a major photography installation set up outdoors. Furthermore, ten of them have been selected by the curators of UNSEEN to present their research and thus celebrate the diversity of approaches, practices and photographic narratives present in the contemporary world. The FUTURES Narratives itinerary will feature the work of Umberto Coa, who will represent CAMERA in 2018. What’s more, the experiences of the artists and curators involved in FUTURES will be at the centre of encounters, debates and coaching sessions at the Unseen Living Room, as well as being included in the ING Unseen Talent Award longlist.

FUTURES is a new photography platform that brings together the various talent programmes of the main photography institutions across Europe with a view to enhancing the capacity, mobility and visibility of the selected artists. By putting together a vast range of resources and curatorial skills, every talent selected is given access to an unprecedented network of professionals, markets and audiences.
