Screening of “Harry Gruyaert. Photographer” by Gerrit Messiaen
Thursday at CAMERA | 1 October 2026, 6.30pm
To explore the life and work of Harry Gruyaert from a variety of perspectives, on Thursday 1 October at 6.30 pm, CAMERA presents a screening of Harry Gruyaert. Photographer (2018) by Gerrit Messiaen, which offers the audience a portrait of a constantly evolving vision, driven by an urge to travel and observe the world through colour photography.
The film traces the Belgian master’s formative years, marked by a desire to pursue a career in photography—a wish not shared by his father—which led him to leave his homeland. More than a biography, the documentary chronicles his ongoing quest, shaped by travel and imagery. At its heart lies his vocation for photography, born of a deep and inevitable impulse that would lead him to become a pioneer of colour: a tireless artist, capable of capturing the spirit of his time through a unique perspective.
