Talk

Tina Modotti, between art and life

Thursday at CAMERA | 22 January 2025, 6.30pm

During her stay in Mexico, Tina Modotti experienced a profound conflict between the desire to devote herself completely to photography and the urgency to engage in political activism. It was life, politics and history itself that took over, with the murder of her comrade and revolutionary Julio Antonio Mella and her expulsion from the country in 1930.
A disagreement between art and life that, looking at the photographer’s work today, appears to us as one of her most precious legacies.
We will explore this theme on Thursday 23 January, with journalist Michele Smargiassi and Walter Guadagnini.

The talk will be an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the work of this extraordinary artist, discovering how more than any document or testimony, it is her photographs that tell us about Tina Modotti’s ideas, battles and tireless social vocation.

With the participation of:
Michele Smargiassi, journalist
Walter Guadagnini, artistic director of CAMERA

The talk costs 3,00€
