Bruno Boudjelal. Photo Album from Aurora and Barriera

Photo Album from Aurora and Barriera, a photographic exhibition by French-Algerian artist Bruno Boudjelal, opens on 25 September 2026 across the façades of three locations in Turin: the Bagni Pubblici di Via Agliè, CAMERA and Dorado.

Created in collaboration with residents of the Aurora and Barriera di Milano neighbourhoods, the exhibition is a collective narrative that invites visitors to experience the city through the faces, lives, and memories of the people who call these districts home. The project brings together a wealth of personal photographs shared by local residents and transformed by Bruno Boudjelal into a large-scale open-air photographic installation.

For his first project in Italy, the artist—renowned for his exploration of identity and borders—has created a site-specific work that places the local community at its heart, reimagining urban space as a living organism shaped by personal memories, social relationships, and new forms of belonging. From childhood snapshots to smartphone images, from black-and-white prints to colour photographs, each picture preserves a story and a fragment of someone’s life. Brought together through Boudjelal’s artistic vision, these images offer an authentic portrait of the neighbourhoods, seen not through the gaze of an outsider but through the everyday experiences of the people who live there.

More than an exhibition, Photo Album from Aurora and Barriera is a collective experience that encourages dialogue among residents, celebrates personal storytelling, and reveals the many intertwined life paths that shape the Aurora and Barriera di Milano neighbourhoods.

The exhibition is part of Urban Frame, one of the winning projects of the public call Torino, che cultura!. Conceived by Stratosferica and CAMERA, the initiative promotes photography as a language capable of telling the story of the city, its transformations, and the richness of the diverse communities that make up its social fabric.
