Exhibition

Tina Modotti at Perugia

Palazzo della Penna | 18 December 2025 – 12 April 2026

After its success at CAMERA, the exhibition Tina Modotti. Works opens at Palazzo della Penna in Perugia.
A unique and exciting journey, open to visitors from December 18, 2025, to April 12, 2026, presenting more than 200 images, including some previously unseen shots resulting from the latest research in Mexico and the United States by curator Riccardo Costantini, as well as numerous rare documents and objects, from the camera Modotti used at the time to her precious ‘istoriata’ travel bag, for a rich and detailed portrait of an extraordinary Italian photographer and artist.

Tina Modotti was in fact a multifaceted figure – actress, model, activist, essayist, painter, and photographer – whose life was intertwined with the political and cultural history of the 20th century. The exhibition traces her entire artistic and creative journey, from her early experiences in Hollywood to her artistic maturity in Mexico, highlighting her “honest photographs”, free from virtuosity and attentive to immediacy and experimentation. These images convey the beauty and dignity of work, the condition of women, the contradictions of progress, and the political fervor of an era marked by great transformations.

The exhibition is promoted by the Municipality of Perugia and organized in collaboration with Cinemazero.
It is accompanied by a catalog published by Dario Cimorelli Editore.
