The window and the mirror. Two American photographers tell their country

On Thursday 14 July, at 6.30 pm, CAMERA will host the meeting The window and the mirror. Two American photographers tell their country.

The meeting will be held in the days of the Summer Masterclass in Visual Storytelling of ICP – International Center of Photography of New York, which this year finally returns in presence with students from different countries of the world (Italy, Austria, Lebanon, Philippines and Ukraine ). In the working group there will also be the young Ukrainian photographer Yana Sidash (born in 1995) who will come to Turin from Lviv thanks to a scholarship born from the collaboration between CAMERA and the Odessa Photo Days Festival.

During the meeting the two American photographers will discuss their love and their deep misgivings about a place they both call home.
Andrew Lichtenstein and Karen Marshall will share their personal experiences photographing the American cultural and political landscape of the past few decades. What does it mean to be an American? In a country so divided, how has this changed, and what role does photography play amidst such conflict?
